Description

A fine quality antique Russian cigarette case by Sazikov, c1880. Pavel Sazikov founded his business in 1793 in Moscow, where it grew rapidly, and in 1842, in the St Petersburg branch, he received the imperial warrant to supply the royal household and court due to the high quality of his work. Following his death, the business continued to be run by his son Ignaty and later by Ignaty’s sons Pavel and Sergei, until the revolution in 1917. The company’s work was mainly silver and cloisonne enamel of a very high quality. The company’s work was exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1951. The case has slight wear to the enamel, which is to be expected with 150 years of use and measures 8x 5cm, weighing 111g.
